Hi everyone, it’s Lucy, today I will introduce my FMP and thesis. My English is not smooth, but I will try my best to show my presentation.
This is my overview. I will show what I want to do from the following points, why I want to do this, and what I can learn. Of course, this is just a rough plan, and you are welcome to make suggestions to me. Anyway, let’s get started!
My thesis hopes to study the influence of character personality on character animation. This inspiration comes from Zootopia, one of my favorite 3D animations. We all know that there are many creature characters in it. They are different animals and have different personalities, but when we watch their performances, we always think, oh, they should walk this way and talk this way, do what they want like this!
Another inspiration comes from Overwatch, although I think its gameplay often changes because the creators want them to keep the game balanced. But I have to say that the role is the soul of their game! Each character has his own background, his own personality, his own clothes, and their animations are exactly in line with their character design. Here we can watch a video:
Now we have a better idea of what I want to study.
And my FMP is also made with reference to my thesis. In fact, this is a model I made in my collaborative project. I designed her by myself and wrote a long story to her, modeling, and texturing. This is my own role! I hope I will continue to design animations for her, such as idle, walking, running, jumping, attacking, play of the game, based on my story. Then, I will put her in unreal engine.
Why do I want to do this project? First of all, everyone knows that I just want to do animation, and I want to enter the game industry, so game animation will be one of my choices. Secondly, now in China, people are looking forward to playing high-quality 3D games, so this industry hopes that excellent animators join. In addition, I haven’t done game animation. I tried it in my collaborative project, but I didn’t have full time to finish it. So, I hope I can study this in FMP!
What I want to explore is that game animation which contains loop animation and performance animation . I want to make my character animations allow people to guess what kind of personality she has. Of course, I also hope that I can explore some new animation techniques, such as extreme deformation of the character, or the motion blur of the movement. Finally, I hope to learn unreal engine and metahuman creator, so that I can continue to learn mocap animation!
My future plan is:
1. Watch the animations! Play games! This is the sources of inspiration! Of course I have to take notes, such as studying the character’s movements carefully.
2. Learn unreal engine! This is what I always want to do, and I hope I can learn this software in the summer holiday! My friend whose major is game design also say that he is willing to help me, which makes me confident to learn!
3. Make animations, adjust animations! And put them in the unreal engine! This is my main thing to do, and I hope I can do it well!
The resource I want most is tutors’ help! Because they are professional. I haven’t thought about other things I want yet. I hope I can use mocap equipment, but it’s not possible now.
My aim is just two, the animation I made can let everyone know what kind of personality my character has! Of course, I hope that I can write a good thesis.
